Extra Heart, Extra Smoke
Mackmyra Extra Rök 2.0 aged in the right 30-litre cask, you can expect our peatiest whisky ever!
We have therefore selected casks that are most likely to give us the end result we dream of.
With the ex-Bourbon 2nd fill cask that previously carried bourbon and peaty/smoky whisky, we let the oak notes take a small step back to let the peaty character be in the centre of attention. Ideally, the whisky is aged for about 4 to 5 years, if you want the maximum effect of the smoke, you can bottle it as early as the 3rd year.
The Perfect Pairing of Wood and Spirit
Curiosity and Experimentation
Curiosity and experimentation live in our DNA, and we've been challenging ourselves over time with the update of our extra peaty/smoky distillate (extra rök). The goal was ”peatier than ever”.
We learned that by waiting longer, we get a bigger heart with more phenols carrying the smoky notes.
At 60.5% abv, we agreed that the peatiness/smokiness was at its best without having to compromise the quality of the distillate. The result is a new make that is just as floral and fruity as before but now with more peaty/smoky tones as well as a little more body.
Why the Ex-Bourbon cask?
The American white oak is a very mellow wood that contains only a few tannins. This results in smoother and milder tasting whisky.
By maturing whisky in these casks, the whisky becomes round and smooth, with prominent notes of vanilla and caramel. With twenty-plus years of experimentation and experience with small cask maturation, we are confident that the ex-bourbon cask will bring out the very best for the new Extra Rök 2.0 distillate.
Choosing the Location
From mines to mountains, coast to country houses, we have the perfect location to mature your whisky depending on your location or the finish you are aiming for.
