The Düsseldorf Operettenhaus, built in 1910, originally had its stage where Ruby Leni stands today. In 1951 the Düsseldorf Schauspielhaus moved in and quickly made a name for itself as one of the leading European theatres. In fact, Ruby Leni was named after Helena in Gustav Gründgen's groundbreaking production of Goethe's Faust, which premiered at the Schauspielhaus in the 1950s, long before it became a film classic. As a reminder of the limelight, the setting was set with antique props and costumes and punctuated with sinuous shapes, soft materials and carefully selected vintage pieces.
